Dear Friends,
In Psalm 11:3 we read, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” In Proverbs 22:28 we read, “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” Our first president, George Washington said, “…reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail, in exclusion of religious principle.” “…the smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which heaven itself ordained.” Yet today we are seeing Biblical foundations being destroyed, the ancient landmarks being removed and the eternal rules of order and right being disregarded. We are in a battle in these last days as Paul said in II Timothy 4:3, “For the time will come when they will not endure SOUND DOCTRINE: but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the TRUTH, and shall be turned unto fables.”
Someone said, “If I were the Devil, I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation.” Yes, we are in a battle for TRUTH against the wiles of the Devil who is behind the feminist and sodomite agenda. Their agenda is to destroy the foundation of the institution of marriage that is the husband and wife relationship. From the beginning, God ordained that the family would be made up of ONE MAN married to ONE WOMEN, for a life time. Marriage is a divine institution given to us by God as referenced in Genesis 2:18-25, Matthew 19:5-6, and Ephesians 5:22-33.
I have used this quote over the years in messages on the home. “The home is man’s KINGDOM, the woman’s WORLD and the child’s PARADISE. The husband is the HEAD of the home; the woman is the HEART of the home, and the children are the HAPPINESS of the home.”
The husband is the HEAD of the home. He is the leader; the spiritual High Priest. He is the provider and the protector of the Home. In I Corinthians 11:3 we read, “But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
The women is the HEART of the home. In Proverbs 12:4 we read, “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that maketh ashamed is a rottenness in his bones.” In Proverbs 14:1 we read, “Every wise woman buildeth her house…”
June is certainly the month for weddings. In Proverbs 18:22 we read, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favor of the Lord.” And how true this is, praise God; a wife is a good thing. God began this process in Genesis 2, after creating the man and the woman from man. He brought Eve, the first woman, to Adam, the first man, and said in Genesis 2:24, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
I have shared the passages above because on June 6, Mary Lou and I will celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. We praise God for this life we have shared together for these 44 years, for our 5 wonderful children and their mates who are all saved and in church together, for our 18 grandchildren, and our 42 years in the ministry. Forty-four years ago we choose as our life verse Galatians 2:20. Let me quote the verse in the plural, “We are crucified with Christ: nevertheless we live: yet not we, but Christ liveth in us: and the life which we now live in the flesh we live by faith of the Son of God, who loved us, and gave himself for us.”
June weddings, yes, they are a favorite, as all our daughters, Grace to Tom, Ruth to Tim and Rebecca to Eric were married in June. Our sons, Jonathan to Christine and Joel to Rachel were married in July. I am doing a little boasting perhaps, but I thank God for a godly heritage, a wonderful wife, good children and their mates, the grandchildren, and the ministry He has given to us over these 44 years. God is certainly great, good and faithful. Amen! and Amen!
