In Psalms 61:1-2 we read "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
Prayer is our absolute dependence upon God.
Prayer is that wonderful means provided by God to meet the NEEDS, the DIFFICULTIES, the TRIALS, the ADVERSITIES, the TEMPTATIONS and the PROBLEMS of life.
The Apostle Paul strongly hinted in his letters how he felt the need of the prayers of God's people.
We read this in Romans 15:30, "Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the Love of the Spirit, that you strive (literally agonize or wrestle) together with me in your prayers to God for me." Literally, Paul was encouraging these folks to share in the battle, share in the burden.
He sought prayer support from the Corinthians people in II Corinthians 1:11, "Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf."
He sought prayer help from the Thessalonians in II Thessalonians 3:1, "Finally brethren, pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you."
In Ephesians 6:18-19, we read, “"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints, and for me(Here Paul asks these people to intercede in a very specific way) that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel…" The apostle Paul, having written about the armor of the believer and the urgency of prayer, asked the Ephesians to pray that God would give him the ability to share the Gospel boldly at every opportunity. Notice the word all in this passage.
We're to pray always-at all times. We're to offer all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. We're to pray with all perseverance. And we're to remember all the saints.
In his book on prayer, Samuel D. Gordon wrote that this world is God's prodigal son, and that God has devised a plan for winning His prodigal back. He wants to use us in the process; and our greatest agency is prayer, which, Gordon says, is communication between God and His allies in the enemy's country. We're behind enemy lines, but prayer is our connection with the Commander. Let's take prayer seriously and always offer all prayer in the Spirit with all perseverance for all the saints.
In this spiritual warfare, praying for others enables you to share in their victories.
Their victory is your victory.
Their thrill is your thrill.
Their achievement is your achievement.
Their answer to prayer is your answer to prayer.
Their blessing is your blessing, because you can both praise God!
May God’s blessing be upon you this week as you read and meditate on the message “Watch and Pray” taken from Matthew 26:41.
In His Amazing Grace,
