Message: Revival #2 Text: II Timothy 3:1-15

Perilous Times

If we take a serious look at our homes, churches and nation, we need to be honest, and admit that everything we have considered to be good is being pillaged and trashed! “Perilous times” are here…now! Again in II Timothy 3:1-15 we read,

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (4) Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; (5) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (6) For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, (7) Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (8) Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. (9) But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. (10) But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, (11) Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. (12) Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. (13) But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (14) But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; (15) And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

I predict that in America, there will be a time when the doors of the church will be padlocked. Impossible, you say? My friends, that day is closer than you think.

Just 50 years ago, if you had told someone that there would no longer be prayer in our schools, they would have called you crazy.

If you had told someone 50 years ago, that crosses and manger scenes would be banned from public buildings, they would have called you crazy.

If you had told someone 50 years ago that we would legally slaughter 4,000 babies every 24 hours in this nation, they would have called you crazy. '

If you had told someone 50 years ago that it would be legal for men to marry men and women to marry women, they would have called you crazy.

If you would have told someone 50 years ago, that it would be illegal to display the 10 commandments in a courthouse, they would have called you crazy.

If you would have told someone 50 years ago, that there would be major efforts to take "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" off of our money, they would have called you crazy. However, 50 years later, these are all a reality!

Here is some more reality for you. Things are NOT going to get any better. I am thankful for all of those who love God and work so diligently in the public arena. They MUST continue to fight for the issues that support God's Word, and we must never vacate the political arena. By supporting those in public office who support the agenda of God, we will maintain a much needed voice.

But here is the problem. Despite the numbers reported by public opinion polls, this nation is becoming more godless every single day! It has already happened in Europe; it happened in Canada, and it is now happening right before our very eyes here in the United States. We are fast becoming a godless society.

A large percentage of the last two full generations in our nation don’t go to church. The generation that is in their 20's and 30's has a large percentage that has never even been to church. They grew up in homes void of God. They are now having children that are growing up in homes void of God, which means the coming generation will also grow up in homes void of God. On top of that, the vast majority of those in these two generations that DO go to church, are NOT in a committed 24/7 relationship with Christ. They range from the Christmas/Easter churchgoers, to those who simply put in their "hour" each week. Their lives, day-in and day-out, are really no different than those who don't go to church at all.

So what is next for our nation?

The false religions will continue to grow. The false religions are based on the writings of men, and they prey on the fact that people are looking for God. They use man's sinful condition to lead them into deception. Among numerous other lies, false religions tell people that they can buy their way into Heaven; they will have sex with virgins, or they can work to become a god!

Perverting the things of God that used to be honored will continue to get worse. Marriage has already become little more than a legal date to most people. Having sex with people to whom you are not married, or with the same sex, is now the mainstream norm. These practices will continue to destroy the family and simply create more generations of people totally void of God in their lives. Our nation will continue to adopt their Godless values and view of life.

Now, if you think I am in error, let me suggest that you read the Bible! This happened to the children of Israel, who were born out of the promise of God and who were witness to His great miracles. If this happened to them, don’t you think this can happen to us – in the land of the free , in the home of the brave?

My friends, the answer is this. Today in this nation, we still enjoy amazing freedom to openly share the Word of God. Jesus said that we have to work while it is still light, because the night is coming. We have got to stop playing games and get serious, because we have a very real enemy who is deadly serious.

Oh, how I wish the church was as committed to building the lives of people, to building the Kingdom of God, as it is in building great structures of brick and mortar. It is time for pastors to stop worrying about being politically correct, and start being Biblically correct! It is time that our church stops being an entertainment center and goes back to being “a house of prayer for all nations,” a preaching center and a place that launches people into soul winning ministries.

Our Spirits ought to feel a great sense of urgency, because now the time is truly very short. Jesus is coming back at any moment for His church. We are living in a very evil and dark world. Over the past forty years, this nation has rapidly deteriorated spiritually right before our very eyes. However, God has always had a people! God has always had a remnant!

Now more than ever, those who refuse to bow their knee to Baal need to stand up and be counted. The Bible proclaims that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church. That is because the church is not a building, it is composed of all those people that have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and those who will follow Him to their death. THAT body of people is the true church. That is why the doors of a church building can be padlocked, but the work of God will never be stopped!!!

More than anything else in our families and ministries, I believe we need the cry of the Psalmist in Psalms 63:2, “To see THY POWER AND THY GLORY, as I have seen Thee in the sanctuary.” This will only happen when there is an outpouring of GENIUNE REVIVAL. Revival always begins with prayer.

Someone said, "When the church is aroused to their duty, men will be swept into the kingdom. A WHOLE CHURCH ON ITS KNEES IS IRRESISTIBLE.”

E.M. Bounds said, "What the church needs today is not more machinery or new organizations or more novel methods, but men whom the Holy Spirit can use, men of PRAYER, men mighty in PRAYER. The Holy Spirit does not anoint plans, but men, men of PRAYER."

Another said, "The church must recapture her distinction. She is not built upon organization and money. She is built upon the might of God. If the church is to be a light in this perverse generation, she must humble herself and PRAY.

PRAYER initiates revival, and revival initiates PRAYER. A PRAYING Christian will be a REVIVED Christian, and a church that seeks the face of God will be one that knows the POWER AND GLORY OF GOD!

Revival is NOT the ORDINARY results of ORDINARY work. Revival is always EXTRAORDINARY. The term REVIVE suggests a RETURN to "consciousness of life." Revivals are not explosions; they are spiritual awakenings.

In Habakkuk 3:2 we read, "O Lord, I have heard thy speech,  and was afraid: O Lord, REVIVE thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy."

In Psalm 85:6 we read, "Wilt Thou not revive us again: that Thy people may REJOICE in Thee."

In Isaiah 57:15 we read, "For thus saith the high and lofty One who inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, TO REVIVE THE SPRIT OF THE HUMBLE, and to REVIVE THE HEART OF THE CONTRITE ONES."

So from where does revival need to come? In II Chronicles 7:14 we read, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”  REVIVAL CAN BEGIN HERE!

This verse challenges us to accept brokenness over pride. "If my people who are called by my name, SHALL HUMBLE THEMSELVES…" REVIVAL CAN BEGIN HERE.

This verse challenges us to recognize the sins in our lives and our need for Spiritual forgiveness. Forgiveness must begin against old grudges and spiritual bitterness, "If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves…and TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS…" REVIVAL CAN BEGIN HERE.

This verse challenges us to once again seek the face of God. "If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and SEEK MY FACE…" REVIVAL CAN BEGIN HERE.

This verse challenges us to pray. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and PRAY…” REVIVAL CAN BEGIN HERE.

After Jesus ascended back into Heaven, 120 people gathered in the upper room together in prayer, for in Acts 1:14 we read, “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.” As a result of this ten day prayer meeting, we come to Acts 2:1-4, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” The spirit of God came down and filled the house in answer to prayer. When the Spirit of God fills the house, and fills the occupants of the house, THAT'S A REVIVAL!

What no effort of men can accomplish, the Lord God Almighty will accomplish in the wake of REVIVAL. "Wilt Thou not revive us again, that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?" Psalms 85:6

Revive us again; Fill each heart with Thy love.

May each soul be rekindled With FIRE from above.

Hallelujah, Thine the glory; Hallelujah, Amen.

Hallelujah, Thine the glory; Revive us again!

So in these “Perilous times” some give in, and some cash out! Others assume it’s no use to press forward. Still others quit because they are discouraged. But wait – here is a word of advice, “Don’t Quit Now! For in 1 John 4:4 we read, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

Whatever the situation! Look up! Believe God! Wait on Him! Pray! Confess your sins and the sins of your family, your church and your nation! Press on! Keep your eye on the sky as “our redemption draweth near!” Maranatha! Amen!

In His Amazing Grace,

David Miklas
