Message: Doing Things in ORDER Text: ICOR 14:41

Let All Things Be Done… In God’s Order

Introduction: The Apostle Paul in writing to perhaps the most sinful, carnal, and worldly church in the New Testament says to the church at Corinth in I Corinthians 14:40 "Let all things be done decently and in order."

Now the phrase "in order" could mean to do things in an orderly manner, or it could mean to do things in proper sequence, such as first things first.

Do you realize that most of our problems in life, physically, mentally, spiritually and even in ministry come because we do things OUT OF ORDER. We tend to grab the second thing in a logical sequence and make it first. Most of our sins are due to setting aside God’s order, and allowing man's order to be first. Consequently we live in a sphere of HUMAN DISORGANIZATION instead of DIVINE ORGANIZATION.

Now, our God is a God of Order. Everything in God's plan for the world, His plan for you and His plan for me has order. There are things that come first and then second and then third and so forth. You will see this throughout the Word of God. For example:

In the creation of all things, of Genesis 1 and 2, there was an order to our creation. First, God created light. Second, God created atmosphere. Third, God laid out the continents of dry land in the water, and so on throughout creation. Even in the creation of human life, God created man first and then woman.

In the gifts of the spirits of I Corinthians 12, there was a definite order. First, there were the Apostles; second, there were the preachers, third, there were the teachers. And last of all came the gift of tongues. Now, the problem in Corinth came when the tongues people took the least of the gifts – speaking in tongues, and made that the primary gift and boasted about it. As a result, this created a great deal of confusion.

In the fruits of the spirit of Galatians 5, love came first, then joy, next peace, and so forth. There was a divine order to the fruits of the spirit – first came love and last came meekness.

In Titus 1:5 the Apostle Paul said to Titus "For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou should SET IN ORDER the things that are wanting…" In the church, God has set an order of how things are to be done.

In Colossians 2:5 we read "For though I be absent in the flesh (the Apostle Paul was speaking here), yet am I with you in the spirit joying and BEHOLDING YOUR ORDER…"

As you can see, there is a proper sequence of events. I believe there is also a reason why God has placed things in the order in which He has in the Word of God.

When we are obedient to that order God is HONORED and we are BLESSED.

When we don't follow that order we live in CONFUSION and REBELLION.

Let me point out to you a number of areas in the Word of God that we sometimes rearrange and therefore take out of order.

First: God's divine order in the CHURCH: This is found in Acts 2:41-42, “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. (42) And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” God's divine order in the church is:

1.     "They that gladly received" refers to SALVATION,

2.     "…were baptized" that's BAPTISM which always follows salvation and is the first act of obedience for a believer.

3.     “And the same day were added unto them” refers to CHURCH MEMBERSHIP. As verse 47 tells us, they were “added unto the church daily such as should be saved.”

4.     "…breaking of bread" refers to COMMUNION, the Lord’s Supper.

So the divine order is SALVATION, BAPTISM, CHURCH MEMBERSHIP and then the LORD'S SUPPER.

Take for example – Baptism. When you place baptism before salvation you have gone from salvation by grace through faith to baptismal regeneration which is a heresy of salvation by works.

Take another example – Lords Supper. Here it is referred to as the "breaking of bread." When you put that before baptism you have again rearranged God's divine order. Why? Because baptism immediately follows salvation. You might ask, “Does that mean that if I am saved and not baptized, then I should not take communion until I am baptized?” Did I say that, or is that God's divine order? You may answer the question.

By the way, this was BAPTISM by IMMERSION, as it always was in the New Testament. Notice the sequence. Salvation, baptism, then church addition. Does that mean one should not be able to join the church unless they are scripturally baptized? Did I say that, or is that God's divine order? You may answer the question.

Second: God's divine order in SALVATION, found in Romans 8:29-33.

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (30) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (31) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (32) He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? (33) Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.”

That divine order has always been JUSTIFICATION, SANCTIFICATION and GLORIFICATION.

1. JUSTIFICATION is a righteous declaration by a Holy God declaring the sinner as righteous as Jesus Christ who bore our sins. Justification comes at the moment of Salvation.

2. SANCTIFICATION In the Bible this is spelled out in the words such as sanctify, saint, and Holy. It means growth in grace. In II Peter 3:18 we read, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…”

3. GLORIFICATION comes at the time of death or the rapture, when we shall see Jesus face to face.

If SANCTIFICATION is put before JUSTIFICATION you have gone from a salvation by faith to a salvation by works. Here is the problem with that sequence. “There are those who say, we are saved by living for God. That is, if you get sanctified you will be justified.” Yes, Jesus ought to become the Lord of your Life, but first and foremost, He must be the Saviour of your life.

In Ephesians 2:8-9 we read, “For by grace are ye saved through faith…”  Here the Bible teaches that salvation is by faith and by faith alone, period. So, God's divine order is justification, then comes sanctification which is growing in grace, and finally when we awake in His likeness (that is Christ's likeness) there will be glorification. My friends, you and I were saved by faith plus nothing. That means you are justified by faith and not by works.

God's divine order is Salvation, Baptism, and then Lord's Supper.

God's divine order is Justification, Sanctification, and then Glorification.

Third: God's divine order in relationships – LOVE, MARRIAGE, SEX. In our present world we have this sequence backwards. Sex is emphasized; maybe marriage follows, and then we hope there is love.

Remember what God said in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh."

Remember what God said in Exodus 20:14, "Thou shalt NOT commit adultery."

Remember God said in Hebrews 13:4, "Marriage is honorable in all and undefiled, but fornicators and adulterers God will judge."

Perhaps you are saying, “Pastor, I'm not living in adultery and I've kept sex within the bounds of marriage.” I say, that’s good, but why do so many of you (God's people) allow strangers to come (through the medium of TV) into your homes to commit sex acts and adultery as you watch?

Isn't it about time that we clean up our TV viewing? As born again believers washed in the Blood of Jesus we should follow God’s pattern of love, marriage and then sex, only with whom we are married, and stop allowing immorality to come into our homes.

It is still sin to commit adultery after marriage.

It is still sin to commit fornication before marriage.

Why? Because God blesses those who follow His divine order – love, marriage and sex with a life-time partner.

God's divine order is Salvation, Baptism, and then Lord's Supper.

God's divine order is Justification, Sanctification, and then Glorification.

God's divine order is Love, Marriage, and then Sex.

Fourth: God's divine order in the acquisition of money – WORK, SAVE, BUY.

In II Thessalonians 3:10 we read, "…this we command you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."

In I Timothy 6:6-10 we read, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. (7) For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. (8) And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. (9) But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

It is no secret that we live in a nation whose debt will cause our great-great-grandchildren to starve in order to pay off. The philosophy in Washington is spend, spend and spend because people lack skills to handle their own money.  The politicians will continue to tax and tax and tax in order to spend more. They need your money to finance their campaign promises of giving you something for nothing. Remember who pays for it in the end, the rich as well as the poor. America is bankrupt because it spends first and pays later.

Current philosophy suggests that no one needs to work, because our benevolent Uncle Sam in Washington will take care of us.

In many ways our churches have the same mind set. Churches are often built with a lot of gingerbread and luxury. Now I am not against having a nice comfortable building. But I am fundamentally opposed to building onto or renovating a structure for which we have not yet paid in full.

Now I am not talking to those who have worked for some time and can spend for things you need or desire to have. But I am talking to those who are either having a tough time making ends meet or those who are getting things out of God's divine order. Your order appears to be – buy and charge, work, buy and charge, broke. Sincerely, you don't have to have the newest ____ until you save the money through honest work to pay for it. To receive the blessings of God, you need to follow His divine order of work, save, buy.

God's Divine order is Salvation, Baptism Lord's Supper

God's divine order is Justification, sanctification glorification

God's divine order is Love, Marriage and then Sex

God divine order is Work, Save, Buy.

Fifth: God's divine order in the use of money is TITHE, DEBTS, NEEDS.

In Leviticus 27:30 we read, “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD.”

In Malachi 3:8-12 we read, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. (9) Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. (10) Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. (11) And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.”

In God's divine order the tithe, the first 10th which is Holy, belongs to God.

Neither you nor I have any right to spend it for our needs.

Neither you nor I have any right to keep it for ourselves.

Yet within the community of saints, members in the church keep what rightfully belongs to God. They line their pockets with God's money, keeping it for themselves. You may be thinking, “Pastor, you are only saying that because the church needs money.” Yes, we do have a budget to meet, and we do need the faithfulness of God's people to give. But more than anything You need to obey God’s commands!

On any given Sunday there are God's people who have not been honest with God's money, the tithe. God’s people need to get before Him and determine to pay what has been withheld from God.

On any given Sunday there are God’s people who are in debt to others. If that is you, then by all means get before God and determine to pay now what you owe on your debt.

God's divine order is Salvation, Baptism, and then Lord's Supper.

God's divine order is Justification, Sanctification, and then Glorification.

God's divine order is Love, Marriage, and then Sex.

God divine order is Work, Save, and then Buy.

God' divine order is Tithe, Debts, and then Needs.

Sixth: God's divine order in attendance is CHURCH SERVICES, SCHOOL. In Matthew 6:33 we read, “But seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Please give me your undivided attention for the next few minutes.

God's divine order is the church first. But wait a minute, let me ask you a question. If you want to see grandparents or have some kind of outing, when would you most likely go, on Sunday? Why? Because you wouldn't go on Monday, that's a school day. Stop and think what you are doing. You are putting God's divine order of the church second.

Now are you ready for this? In God's divine order, I believe the Sunday school is more important than the Monday school. Yet, many of God's people keep their children home on Sunday, so they can rest-up or recuperate for school on Monday. Folks, that's not God's divine order. Families will be blessed when they put the church services including Sunday school first.

God's divine order is Church Services, and then School.

Seventh: God's divine order in the church – CHRIST, PASTORS, DEACONS, PEOPLE. In I Timothy 3:1-11 and in Titus 1:5-9 and in Philippians 1:1 we read, “Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops (that is pastors) and deacons:” The divine order is Pastors, Deacons, People. It is not Deacons, Pastors, People, or People, Deacons, Pastors.

God did not call deacons to be the pastor's boss. God called the deacons to be the pastor's helpers. Nowhere in the Word of God are the deacons called an official board of the church.

Thank God for deacons and especially the men of this church who serve and not try to manage the preacher. God's divine order places the pastor under the headship of Christ the preacher and prophet. Then the deacons follow the pastor to lead the people.

This is not arrogance, this is Biblical truth. To me being a pastor is humbling in itself.

In Hebrews 13:7 we read, “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation (that is their manner in how they live).”

In Hebrews 13:17 we also read, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your SOULS, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”

As your pastor I watch out for your souls. One day I will be called upon to give an account, not only of my life but how you lived under my ministry.

God's divine order is Church Services, and then School.

God's divine order is Pastor, Deacons, and then the People.

Eight: God's divine order of authority in the home is CHRIST, HUSBAND, WIFE, CHILDREN. Notice with me please, I Corinthians 11:3, “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” Notice who is first. it is Christ, then man, then the woman. Herein is the divine order for the home:

For the HUSBAND, it is God, wife, children.

For the WIFE, it is husband led by God, and then children. It is not wife. children, and then husband. That might be current human order, but that's not God's divine order.

When this divine order is rearranged in the home you will experience rebellion, confusion, and the blessings of God will not be there.

Now in Ephesians 5:21-33, and in Colossians 3:18-21 we the wife, husband and children are mentioned in that order. However, in this instance as in other passages, God is speaking to the one under authority first before He speaks to the one in authority.

God's Divine order is Salvation, Baptism, and then the Lord's Supper.

God's divine order is Justification, Sanctification, and then Glorification.

God's divine order is Love, Marriage, and then Sex.

God divine order is Work, Save, and then Buy.

God' divine order is Tithe, Debts, and then Needs.

God's divine order is Church Services, and then School.

God's divine order is Pastor, Deacons, and then the People.

God's divine order of authority in the home is Christ, husband, wife and then children.

Ninth: God's divine order is SOUL-WINNING, CHURCH ACTIVITIES. This being our last point we find that God's divine order is soul-winning then church activities.

Remember the great commission in Matthew 28:19 "Go you therefore and teach all nations." That speaks of soul winning.

Remember Acts 1:8, "But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me…"

This is a mandate from Jesus to be a soul-winner. Soul-winning comes before any and all church activities, because without salvation of souls, there is no church.

The fact that you sing in the choir, play an instrument, organize the nursery, work with youth, teach Sunday school, or serve in any other capacity in your local church does not exempt you from personally sharing the gospel with unsaved-souls.

God's divine order for every single born-again believer is supposed to be soul-winning, then church activities. Soul-winning is a divine command from our Commander in Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Maybe I’m talking to some who have problems and conflicts in life simply because they have things out of order.

Maybe I'm talking to folks to whom God has also spoken regarding an area that is out of order. Some second thing has been placed first ahead of the thing that should be first. Perhaps there are issues not mentioned, but you know they are out of order in your life.

By now, you recognize that I have been very straight forward with you. I have honestly laid out before you God's Holy Word. May I ask you a personal question? Are there some areas of your life that are out of God’s divine order?

God's Divine order is Salvation, Baptism, and then the Lord's Supper.

God's divine order is Justification, Sanctification, and then Glorification.

God's divine order is Love, Marriage, and then Sex.

God divine order is Work, Save, and then Buy.

God' divine order is Tithe, Debts, and then Needs.

God's divine order is Church Services, and then School.

God's divine order is Pastor, Deacons, and then the People.

God's divine order is Christ, Husband, Wife and then Children.

God's divine order is Soul-winning, and then Church Activities.

Before God, how many of you would say you have something out of order in your life? Maybe it is some area we mentioned. Maybe it is something about which the Holy Spirit has convicted you that is not in order. Whatever it may be, take a few minutes to deal with that area before God and then seek to make changes in your life.

**************************************************************************

If God has spoken to your heart after reading the sermon “Let All Things Be Done… in God’s Order,” right now talk to God about what He has spoken to you.

Do you have the assurance that one day you will go to heaven? If you have no assurance that you know Jesus Christ, then I trust you will decide to accept Him as your personal Savior. The Bible tells us in

Acts 16:31, “…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”

Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

This prayer is here for those who need to ask Jesus to be their personal Savior: “I do want to go to Heaven. I know I am a sinner, and I do believe Jesus Christ died for me. I realize I cannot buy this great salvation, nor can I earn it. Knowing Jesus died on the cross and arose from the grave to pay my sin debt and to purchase my salvation, I do now trust Him as my Savior, and from this moment on I am completely depending on Him for my salvation.”

If you made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, please let me know. Send an e-mail to pdmikBBM@aol.com and I will send you some literature that will help you in your Christian life.
