In Hebrews 13:8 we read “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” In his book Daniel Seymour says that when the rate of change outside our institutions exceeds the rate of change inside, we're in danger of losing ground. Seymour's book addresses colleges and universities, but we're all grappling with the implications of change in our society. It's hard to keep up with the times as our culture refashions itself by the minute, for better or worse. We're overwhelmed by the pace of change in our technology and even in our churches.

But one thing never changes. In Malachi 3:6 we read: "For I am the LORD, I change not…” By the very definition of the word God, our heavenly Father exists from everlasting to everlasting. He is eternal, and His qualities of love, power, justice, and joy never change. Our hope for the future is based on His faithfulness in the past.

If you're struggling to keep up with changes around you, look to the Lord. Find stability in Him. Live with the Master's momentum. Let His wisdom guide you through the spinning days, and follow Him at every step. Though all the earth may change and decay, we're blessed to be able to abide in an eternal God who changes not and whose mercy endures forever. This week why not let these words from the hymn – Great is Thy Faithfulness fill your mind – “Thou changes not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.”

Here are some good rules for your Daily Life:

BEGIN THE DAY WITH GOD, Kneel down to Him in prayer; Lift up thy heart to His abode, And seek His love to share.

OPEN THE BOOK OF GOD, And read a portion there; That it may hallow all thy thoughts, And sweeten all thy care.

GO THROUGH THE DAY WITH GOD, What e're thy work may be; Where e're thou art—at home, abroad, He still is near to thee.

CONVERSE IN MIND WITH GOD, Thy spirit Heavenward raise! Acknowledge every good bestowed, And offer grateful praise.

CONCLUDE THE DAY WITH GOD, Thy sins to Him confess; Trust in the Lord's atoning blood, And plead His righteousness.

LIE DOWN AT NIGHT WITH GOD, Who gives His servants sleep; And when thou tread the vale of death, He will thee guard and keep.

In Hebrew 6:19 we read, “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast,…” Someone wrote, “Hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is not simply cheery optimism. Hope certainly can produce an optimistic attitude, but an optimistic attitude is no substitute for true hope. Hope is a gift of God through Christ that produces confident, unshakable trust in His faithfulness, and a vibrant expectation of His timely intervention in keeping with His gracious promises to us.”

Hope is simply waiting expectantly and eagerly for the day God will perfectly fulfill every promise and do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think.

Hope is a deep-seated confidence in God that anchors our souls, even in rough seas. Make very sure your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.

We are the salt of the earth – mind you, not the sugar – and our ministry is truly to cleanse and not to change the taste.

In His Amazing Grace,

Pastor David Miklas
