Every day we make decisions – some decisions are small, others are major. Here are EIGHT TESTS to consider for godly decision making.

1. Scriptural Test: “Has God already spoken about it in His Word?" – II Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…”

2. Secrecy Test: "Would it bother me if everyone knew this was my choice?" – Proverbs 11:3, “The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.”

3. Survey Test: “What if everyone followed my example?"  – I Timothy 4:12, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

4. Spiritual Test: "Am I being people-pressured or Spirit-led?" – Galatians 1:10, "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”

5. Stumbling Test: "Could this cause another person to stumble? – Romans 14:21, “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.”

6. Serenity Test: "Have I prayed and received peace about this decision” – Philippians 4:6-7, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (7) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

7. Sanctification Test: "Will this keep me from growing in the character of Christ?” – II Corinthians 3:18, “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

8. Supreme Test: "Does this glorify God?" – 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

This is for all those of you who are fishermen. Most fishermen know all about casting, but some take it very seriously: In 1881, the first casting championships took place on the outskirts of London; this event led, over time, to the founding of the International Casting Sport Federation. Today, the Federation organizes championships around the world for all ages. Casters are judged by distance and accuracy. Christ-followers also know a lot about casting.

Psalm 55:22, "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee:…”

Proverbs 22:10, "Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out…”

Ecclesiastes 11:1 "Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days."

Ezekiel 18:31 “Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed;”

Jesus said in John 21:6 “Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find…”

Paul told us in Romans 13:12, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

Peter told us in I Peter 5:7 “ Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

The Apostle John who was, after all, a fisherman, added a special word in 1 John 4:18. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

Life is like a schoolroom with a glorious opportunity to prepare us for eternity.
